We organized a study meeting for aerobic, high temperature fermentation technology to promote research and development of high temperature compost in cooperation with academic universities,government and private institutes. In this study meeting, improvement of organic waste treatments by using thermophilic organisms as well as utilization of enzymes produced by microorganisms in high temperature compost has been discussed. In our institute, enzymes which are able to attack and decompose the pathogenic prion protein were successfully isolated from high temperature compost.

Techniques on decomposition of organic waste by high temperature compost can be applied to human life in Space. A prototype of equipments to be used in Space Station and life-supporting facilities on Moon and Mars in future has been developed in a collaboration with JAXA, the space agency in Japan, and universities.
