DNA manipulation is one of the key techniques for basic research in Environmental Sciences.
Aerobic, high temperature composting provides a cheap and safe way to decompose organic waste without the production of toxic pollutants such as NOx, SOx and dioxins. We have investigated microorganisms involving in this process. We already identified new thermophilic strains which belong to a new genus. Enzymes produced by microorganisms in high temperature compost are stable to heat, and of industrial value. We are interesting in technological utilization of these stable enzymes.

Organic waste can be efficiently decomposed by aerobic, high temperature composting.

A new bacterial strain from high temperature compost.

Heat-stable enzymes from high temperature compost are research subjects in our laboratories. An example of backbone structure of a heat stable enzyme is shown.
